In a number of different cultures and religions there is a myth of a world or cosmic Turtle that carries the cosmos on it’s back.

For my monster I thought to localise the burden for the Turtle and make it more relevant to Berwick. Iconic Buildings around Town are represented transferring the character of the architecture to the load. I also noticed that the old walls shared the same colours as sea turtles and the masonry work looked like scales in parts.

The original painting has been reproduced as a giclée print. The archival stock matches cold press watercolour paper in texture and gives the print a warm glow.
